Well the Captain
will be back in town this week and it is time to rumble again. January
2008 is going to be a great month to be out on the lakes and bay.
The British
Virgin Island Sail Club is now full. 18 Hardy Souls heading south
in now less than one year. All the Beneteaus are reserved. Boat
one will the Hughes; Boat Two the Captain, me, Janina and her son; Boat
Three Mr and Mrs Morgan and Family and Boat Four Billy, Anthony
and Wendy along with guest.
So 18 heading
to the Baths, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Peters Island, Josh Van Dyke, the
Soggy Dollar, Sandy Key, great sails in the Caribbean and of COURSE,
Foxies for new year's. in fact we are trying to book our party now
for Foxies. All the cameras will be loaded, among others, and off
the dinghy's will be going for some BVI great time.
The BVI training
sails are staring in January. The last weekend in January we will
be having the ASA Basic Coastal Class for those needing certification. Along
with the sail we will be heading to Galveston for a weekend on the boat
and BVI training. Then monthly after that we will be having training. The
last weekend in February is the ASA Bareboat class for those needing certification
and another weekend at the Gulf and Galveston Starbucks gift card redemption. Nothing
like it, nothing, waking up in the brisk cool Gulf air with the boat rocking
and the coffee brewing. The conversations often wonder into the BVI
and other places.
DO NOT FORGET,
in the summer of '08 we are now planning that sailing trip. It will
be to the Greek Isles with the Noffsingers. Joe and family, what
a great crew, will be paving the way this summer to help get everything
set up. If you want to plan on the summer trip of '08 to the Greek
Isles let us know, as normal, you can crew, take the helm or be one
of the chillers. Regardless, we are planning on quite a good time.
The camping
trip, the first weekend in May 08 is about full. Remember, be
sure to confirm your spot in January for our list and if you still want
to join in be sure to write us fast. The tripers will be leaving
Friday for a weekend at the Canyon of the Eagles at Lake Buchanan in Burnett,
Texas. The camping, always primitive, is right next to the boats
and water. In fact, you are lulled to sleep with the lake lapping
at the foot hill. We will be setting new records for the row to the
water falls. It will simply be a GPS blast, kayaking in singles
and tandem, bring your own boat or book with us. Everything is provided,
of course, from tents to kayaks, so let us hear to tally up the list. Last
fall we had over 15 members having a blast, check out the website
for the latest pictures.
The kayaking
training will begin next weekend, 1/5/08-1/6/08, 10am both days. The
classes for beginners are at 8am both days and the scullers and kayakers
should be at the boathouse at 10am for a trip to Taylor Lake and the start
of Waterfall Training.
The spring
regattas are coming fast. If you want to join the sculling team for
the sculling regattas let us know. We will be moving the boats out
in the spring to the regatta and if you want to join in the singles racing
let us know. This weekend we are also starting that training with
the Taylor Lake row. Slides per minute the key, reaching and pumping
to success and a regatta trophy for the Giffer.
